Summary: Abstract: The study used questionnaire and observation to investigate 280 Thai ethnic minority students’ ability to understand Vietnamese semantics. Based on the findings, implications for improving quality of teaching Vietnamese for grade 1 - Thai ethnic minority students in Northwest area in Vietnam are discussed.
