Abstract: The article analyzes a number of instrumental concepts such as integration, integrated teaching, theme, core themes, competency. Subsequently, the researchers demonstrate that core theme-based integrated teaching enhances students’ competencies by analyzing the content and methodology of this approach. The research findings also provide implications for successful implementation of the new general education curriculum.

Abstract: Mathematics and Physics are two scientific subjects that are interrelated to each other. Physics provides Mathematics with methods to solve problems. In this report, we present some problems that clarify the relationship between Mathematics and Physics. In particular, we present mathematical contents that are related to the following problems: the path of light rays through a flat mirror and the axial symmetry; the path of light rays through the circular mirror; the path of light rays through the elliptical mirror; time travel of light rays through two different environments; mechanics and Fermat points in the triangle. Then we propose the methods in integrated teaching Mathematics and Physics in high schools.

4. TEACHING MATHEMATICS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL IN AN INTEGRATED WAY

Abstract: Student lack experience and confidences after leaving school to apply mathematical knowledge to solve real life problems, as they need to utilize not only mathematical knowledge but also knowledge of other topics. Teachers therefore need to present mathematics in a broader context and encourage students to synthesize mathematics knowledge and other subjects of the curriculum to solve problems which is an integrated approach to mathematics teaching. In this paper, we will explain the benefits of integrated teaching, discuss integration approaches and models, and propose the five-step integrated teaching process. We will also present an illustrated example of using the five-step process in integrated teaching mathematics - biology through the “Genetic diseases in real life” project.
