Abstract: Mathematics teaching competency in primary education is one of the important occupational competencies that need to be addressed in primary teacher training institutions. In this paper, we begin with investigating theories of teachers’ professional standards; the missions and contents of Math teaching method courses in in primary schools and teaching practice; then, determine the criteria and levels of Math teaching competency which students need to reach. Finally, we propose and pilot four sets of measures to develop the students’ targeted competency through teaching the Math teaching Methodology Courses.
